Understanding labour changes how you experience it

Most of the fear around childbirth comes from not knowing the sequence. When you understand that early labour can legitimately last a day, that transition is short and intense and that pushing feels nothing like the contractions before it, the same physical experience becomes far less frightening.

Our labour series walks through each stage, the interventions you may be offered in a Chennai hospital, the questions worth asking before consenting, and the positions and breathing that genuinely help. Your birth companion learns it with you.

The labour series

Basics of labour

How labour begins, what is true labour, when to leave for the hospital.

Stages of labour

Early, active, transition and pushing, with what to expect and do in each.

Interventions

Induction, epidural, episiotomy, assisted delivery and caesarean, explained neutrally.

Lamaze breathing

Breathing patterns matched to each stage, practised until they are automatic.

GK of labour

The vocabulary, the monitoring, the paperwork and the decisions nobody warns you about.

Partner training

Counter-pressure, positions and how to advocate for you when you cannot.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the classes in Tamil?

Classes are conducted in English and Hindi. Instructors clarify anything on request and the material is repeated across sessions.

When should I take the childbirth classes?

Most parents take the labour series in the third trimester, usually from around week 28.

Does this replace my hospital antenatal session?

It goes considerably further. Hospital sessions are usually one orientation visit, this is a five-part course with practice.

Can my husband attend?

Yes, and for the labour series we strongly recommend it. He has an active role in the delivery room.

What if I am planning a caesarean?

The series still applies. We cover planned caesarean preparation, recovery and early breastfeeding after surgery.
